1) What Unstable Diffusion is (and isn’t)
- What Unstable Diffusion is: A web app for AI image generation with a simple UI, a credit system (free “Slow” and paid “Fast” credits), model choices, and aesthetic controls.
- What it isn’t (today): There’s no native video generator in Unstability.ai. The platform’s own terms describe it as an “AI image generation Website,” and the official user guide only documents image features. We’ll show you a reliable workaround for video in section 9.
2) Unstable Diffusion Quick Start (5 minutes)
- Create an account and sign in.
- In the Prompt box, describe what you want.
- Pick a Model (Merlin, Echo, Izanagi, or Pan).
- Set Aspect Ratio, Number of Images (1–4), and Speed (Relaxed or Turbo).
- Click Create. Use Regenerate or Reuse Settings next to any result to iterate. Right‑click an image to Download or Delete (deletions are permanent).
3) Unstable Diffusion Credit System & Speed (how generation is billed)
- Slow Credits (free): Refresh daily and run at Relaxed speed.
- Fast Credits (paid): Included with subscriptions; enable Turbo speed (roughly halves generation time).
- Costing:1 credit = 1 image (e.g., 4 images = 4 credits).
- Free tier allowance: up to 52 Slow credits/day (documented on the Upgrade page’s FAQ).
Tip: Use Slow for exploratory drafts and Turbo when you’re confident in your prompt and need faster turnaround.
4) Unstable Diffusion Models (which one should you choose?)
Unstability.ai provides four curated models, each with a different strength. Try each on the same prompt to feel the differences:
- Merlin — Generalist, handles many art styles and topics well.
- Echo — Photography‑leaning (great for lifelike photos); can also do illustration.
- Izanagi — Anime/Manga aesthetic focus.
- Pan — Anthropomorphic characters in an anime aesthetic.
5) Unstable Diffusion Core UI Controls (“all the commands,” explained)
| Control | Where | What it does | When to use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prompt | Main panel | Your text description to guide the AI. | Always—be specific on subject, style, lighting, and mood. |
| Model | Main panel | Chooses Merlin / Echo / Izanagi / Pan. | Switch when you need a different visual bias (photoreal vs. anime, etc.). |
| Aspect Ratio | Main panel | Landscape / Square / Portrait. | Match your target (social, web hero, poster). |
| Number of Images | Main panel | Generate 1–4 at once. | Batch explorations; remember each image consumes 1 credit. |
| Generation Speed | Main panel | Relaxed (Slow credits) vs Turbo (Fast credits). | Use Turbo when time matters or you’re fine‑tuning. |
| Create | Main panel | Starts generation; a circular bar shows progress. | Click whenever your settings are ready. |
| Exclude | Main panel | Negative prompt: list things you don’t want. | Remove artifacts (e.g., “text, watermark, extra fingers”). |
| Regenerate | Beside result | Re‑run generation with same prompt/settings. | When you like the setup but want different samples. |
| Reuse Settings | Beside result | Loads the exact settings from a result. | Great for iterating with small prompt tweaks. |
| Right‑click → Download | On result | Save full‑resolution image. | For saving and sharing. |
| Right‑click → Delete | On result | Permanently removes image. | Irreversible cleanup. |
6) Unstable Diffusion Settings Tab (your “editing” toolkit)
6.1 Samplers (style “presets”)
- Diverse Composition — increases color variety.
- Dynamic Contrast — boosts light/dark contrast.
- Complementary Composition — emphasizes colors complementary to your chosen lighting color.
- Color Guidance — steers toward a dominant color.
- Dual Color Guidance — emphasizes a lighting color while trying to exclude a chosen negative color.
Tip: Start neutral, then toggle samplers one at a time to feel their impact.
6.2 Fine‑tuning Sliders
- Sampler Strength — how strongly the sampler influences the image.
- High Frequency Detail — adds fine texture/detail.
- Saturation — controls color intensity.
Use Reset Settings anytime to return to defaults.
7) Unstable Diffusion Usage Guidelines (important limits)
- If your prompt could violate platform guidelines, the generation is denied.
- If a result violates guidelines, it won’t be served.
(This is enforced by the platform.)
8) Pricing, Plan Features & Licensing
Unstability.ai offers free and paid tiers:

Commercial rights:Premium and Pro subscribers are granted commercial rights for images they generate (free users: personal use only).
9) How to do Video with your Unstable Diffusion images (reliable workflow)
Why this section exists: Unstability.ai is currently image‑only. To animate your outputs, use Stable Video Diffusion (SVD)—an official Stability AI model for short videos. It supports 14‑frame and 25‑frame variants with customizable FPS; videos are short (≤ ~4 seconds).
Workflow A — Use an online SVD demo (fastest)
- Generate an image in Unstability.ai and download it.
- Open a Stable Video Diffusion interface (e.g., the Hugging Face Spaces listed on the SVD model page) and upload your image.
- Choose the frame count (14 or 25) and FPS (typically 3–30), then render and download the video.
Workflow B — Local / pro setup
- Pull the SVD Image‑to‑Video checkpoint and run with the StableVideoDiffusionPipeline (see the official model card for requirements and limitations).
Licensing note: Unstability.ai’s Premium/Pro plans grant commercial rights for images generated on that site; SVD has its own license and acceptable‑use terms—review Stability AI’s license before commercial use.
10) Practical Prompting: quick patterns to copy
Use these as starting points—then tailor per model:
- Echo (photoreal):
“a candid street portrait, 85mm, shallow depth of field, golden hour rim light, natural skin tones, subtle film grain” → add Dynamic Contrast; keep Saturation moderate. - Merlin (concept art):
“wide shot of a foggy cyberpunk alley, neon reflections on wet pavement, volumetric light shafts, cinematic composition, moody, high detail” → try Diverse Composition (then back off Sampler Strength if colors get too busy). - Izanagi (anime):
“anime hero mid‑leap, dynamic pose, motion lines, bright key light, dramatic sky backdrop, crisp lineart, stylized shading” → experiment with High Frequency Detail for texture. - Pan (anthro anime):
“anthropomorphic explorer in a desert ruin, stylized cel‑shading, soft bounce light, adventurous mood, clean background” → use Exclude:text, watermark, signature to keep frames clean.
11) Troubleshooting & pro tips
- Flat/washed colors? Increase Saturation or try Complementary Composition.
- Too dark or muddy? Toggle Dynamic Contrast; reduce Sampler Strength if artifacts appear.
- Unexpected objects? Add them to Exclude (negative prompt), then Regenerate.
- Inconsistent style?Reuse Settings from a favorite image to lock in look and iterate.
12) Roadmap signals (from the site)
- Private mode and Slow mode priority are marked “Available Soon.”
- The team notes future variable pricing (e.g., potential 4K or upscales costing more than base generations).
13) What others say (context & coverage)
- Media have profiled Unstable Diffusion as an “uncensored” image‑generation community/tool (earlier coverage framed it around openness vs. safety). WIRED
- Third‑party listings and reviews frequently echo the pricing tiers and 52 daily Slow credits free allotment; always verify on the official Upgrade page for the most current details.
14) One‑page checklist
- Write a clear prompt (+ Exclude undesired elements).
- Pick a Model (Merlin/Echo/Izanagi/Pan).
- Set Aspect Ratio, # Images (1–4), Speed (Relaxed/Turbo).
- In Settings, test Samplers and tune Strength/Detail/Saturation.
- Create → Regenerate/Reuse Settings as needed. Download the best.
- Need video? Run the image through Stable Video Diffusion (14 or 25 frames, user‑selectable FPS; clips ≤ ~4s).
- Check licensing: Premium/Pro images are OK for commercial use; SVD has a separate license.
Final notes for teams & creators
- Unstability.ai’s Premium and Pro tiers remove daily Slow limits and include Fast credits, making it practical for production workloads; Basic is a cost‑effective entry with commercial rights but fewer resources. Keep an eye on upcoming Private mode for sensitive projects.
