chatd Brief overview
ChatD is a desktop app that lets you chat with files stored on your computer using a local large language model (Mistral‑7B by default) running via Ollama. All processing happens on‑device—your documents aren’t sent to the cloud.
Simple how‑to‑use
- Download the latest build from the site or the GitHub Releases page. Unzip and run the
chatdexecutable. - Add your files (PDF, Markdown, DOCX, ODT) and ask questions or request summaries.
- Optional: pick a different local model and/or enable GPU acceleration. ChatD uses Ollama automatically (it will use an existing local Ollama server or start one for you).
Key features & functions
- On‑device privacy: Data stays on your computer; nothing is uploaded.
- Packaged local LLM runner: No extra installs—ChatD bundles what it needs; just run the app.
- File‑aware chat & summarization: Ask questions, extract answers, and summarize across supported document types (PDF/MD/DOCX/ODT).
- Model flexibility: Ships configured for Mistral‑7B; works with other Ollama models; GPU support available.
- Cross‑platform: Packaging instructions provided for macOS, Windows, and Linux.
- Open‑source: MIT‑licensed project on GitHub.
